Despite this stigma and being considered too young by her peers, Liara earned over a dozen doctorates on Thessia before the age of 106. She is technically an adult under Citadel law but was often dismissed academically due to her relative youth. Her family tree holds further complexity; Mass Effect 3 reveals Matriarch Aethyta is also her biological parent, making Liara one-quarter krogan. Aethyta first appears in Mass Effect 2 working as a bartender on Illium, where she had secretly spied on Liara for years.
